Blinds for Bow Windows and Curved Bay Windows
Blinds for bow windows need more care than blinds for a flat window. A bow has several narrow panels arranged in a curve, so each segment needs a blind made to its own size. This page explains the options for bow windows and curved bay windows, and how we measure them. For other bay shapes, see our guide to the best blinds for bay windows.
Blindsfor Bow and Curved Bay Windows
Bow window or bay window?
A bay window has a few flat panes at an angle, usually two, three or five. A bow window has several narrow panels arranged in a gentle curve. Because a bow has no straight run, rigid blinds rarely sit well across the whole window, and one blind cannot span it.
Segmented Roman blinds for bow windows
Segmented Roman blinds are cut to follow the arc of the window. They gather into neat folds when raised and create a soft, layered look when lowered. Paired with a thermal interlining, they can also help to reduce heat loss through the large glazed area a bow window usually has.
Roller and Venetian blinds in a bow window
A separate roller blind or Venetian blind in each panel also gives a neat finish, and suits a simple, modern look. Every segment is measured and made to its own size.
What about vertical blinds in a bow window?
A straight track cannot follow a curve, so vertical blinds are less common in true bows. In a gentle bow made of flat panes, a blind per pane can work. Read more on our page about vertical blinds for bay windows.
How we measure bow windows
We measure each panel separately, width and drop, and note the angle between panels. Even small differences between panels show once the blinds are fitted, which is why we measure in person rather than relying on a single measurement.
Free measuring and fitting for bow windows
We measure and fit blinds for bow windows and curved bay windows in person, so every panel is made to its own size. Measuring and fitting are both free. request your free online quote or call or WhatsApp us on +44 7902 909050. We serve Leeds, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Halifax, Dewsbury, Batley, Brighouse and across West Yorkshire.
FAQs – Blinds for Bow Windows and Curved Bay Windows
What blinds suit a bow window?
Segmented Roman blinds, or a separate roller or Venetian blind in each panel, give the neatest finish in a bow window.
Can one blind cover a whole bow window?
Not usually. A bow is curved, so a straight blind cannot follow it. Each segment needs its own made-to-measure blind.
Are Roman or roller blinds better for a curved bay window?
Roman blinds give a softer, more decorative look. Roller blinds are simpler and easier to clean. Both can be made for each segment.
Do you offer free measuring for bow windows?
Yes. Measuring and fitting are both free across West Yorkshire.
What is the difference between a bay window and a bow window?
A bay has a few flat panes at an angle. A bow has several narrow panels arranged in a curve.
